Food for thought..

Read this guy’s comment concerning the murder story of Trayvon Martin and the racial suspicion behind it, and it really stood out to me (here’s the story btw: http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nightly-news/46789200/#46789200):

I’m an AMERICAN… I was born in AMERICA, and I get so tired of hearing terms like “Mexican American” and “African American” being thrown around like it’s just some title to define someone who isn’t “white.” Fact is simple:

African American - A person who was born in Africa but now has the legal authorization to live in the United States of America.

Mexican American - A person who was born in Mexico but now has the legal authorization to live in the United States of America…

Get my drift? It goes on and on and on…. I worked with a Gentleman from Africa when I was employed at AT&T… he was a white man, from Africa, and one day in the break room a black american said “they don’t know what it means to be african american” and this man said to her “and neither do you! You aren’t an African American. You didn’t grow up in Africa, you’ve probably never been to Africa, and I’m offended that you use a term reserved for me in such a way.” That day, I realized that he was right….
